Mr. Hollis Hughes Hill, Jr., of Homewood, Alabama passed away on Thursday, the 18th of February 2021. He was 86 years of age. Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his parents, Hollis Sr. and Annie Tice Hill, and daughter, Laura Jane Hill. Hollis filled his 31,659 calendar days as a devoted husband, Daddy, Pop, son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, chemist (retired from Southern Research Institute), 44 year Sunday School teacher (Dawson Memorial Baptist Church), reunion planner (class president Cherokee Vocational High School 1952), Florence State College (UNA) alumnus, U.S. Army Captain, photographer, conversationalist, star gazer, concert attender, weather watcher, history enthusiast, list maker, nap taker, joke teller, Smoky Mountain air breather, and avid collector, his most precious treasures being his friends and family.
Those who miss him most include his wife of 63 years, Catherine Puckett Hill; his children, Emily Roberts (Mark), Scott Hill (Sheila), Amy Sellers (Stephen), and Martha Catchings (Ben); grandchildren, Nathan Barrett (Juliet), Laura Russell (Trey), Aaron Barrett, Cathy Hill (Austin), Joni Morgan, Malory Smith (TJ), Eric Stewart, Catherine Sellers, Ashlee Sellers, Frankie Catchings, Kasey Catchings; eleven great-grandchildren; and sisters Delora Anne Crump and Rosemary Hill. Hollis fought a valiant battle with myasthenia gravis. He set a brilliant example of perseverance and how to capture every moment.
We will celebrate his life with a graveside service at Johnson Chapel in Danville, Alabama on Tuesday, February 23, at 12:30 p.m. Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood, Alabama.
