

served as mayor of Homewood for three terms. "Jimmy" attended Phillips High School, graduating in 1946. He
attended the University of Alabama, earning a BS in Biology, and was an active member of Phi Gamm fraternity.
James graduated from Northwestern University Dental School in Chicago, in 1953. He served in the United States
Air Force at MacDill Air Force Base, FL, 1953-1954. He went on to earn his Orthodontic degree from Columbia
University in 1957. Dr. Bloom was president of Jaycee Toastmaster Club 1962. He met his future wife, Joy
Adams Bloom, at a lecture where he was teaching young speech therapists, about the effects of speech and
malocclusion. Dr. Bloom practiced dentistry and orthodontics for over sixty-five years. James and Joy resided in
in Mountain Brook, raising six children. Dr. James R Bloom is survived by his brother. Earl Bloom, and his six
children, and thirteen grandchildren. His children are Jim Bloom, Christopher Bloom(Lori), Helen Bloom
Smith(Brad), Joy Bloom Wright(WillD), Bonnie Bloom(Brent), and Mac Bloom(Rachael). His grandchildren are
Hannah, Claudia, Wyatt, Thomas, James, Jack, Hoke, Sara Lane, Nick, Sebastian,Maccabee, Ignatius, and Elijah.
