James V. Puya

PUYA, JAMES VINCENT James Vincent Puya, of Wellington, FL formerly of Birmingham, died on January 16, 2011. Born on September 5, 1919 in Bristol, RI, Mr. Puya was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Finley Puya; son, James Vincent Puya, Jr. and daughter, Lucy Nan Puya. He is survived by his daughter, Ruthann Retterbush (John) and grandson, William Charles Retterbush, III all of Wellington, Fl. He is also survived by his sister, Ida Kloner of Bristol, RI. A veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII where he was honorably discharged as a Sargent. He was married to Ruth Blair Finley in 1945. Mr. Puya retired from Liberty National Life Insurance Company in 1984 after 38 years. A former member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, Mr. Puya served on the Holy Name Society and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of Civitan Club, DPMA, National Association of Accountants, The Club, Altadena Country Club and the Roma Club. Funeral Mass will be Friday January 21, 2011 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church at 11:00. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations to the American Cancer Society and the Heart Association . services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel (879-3401) Homewood, AL.
