Janet M. Skellie-Keel

Jan was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, on November 12, 1954, and was the fourth of eight children born to Richard and Patricia Skellie. Jan graduated from John Carroll Catholic High School in 1972. She spent much of her life employed in the medical field and was last employed at UAB Health Services.

Jan is survived by her loving son, Ry Skellie Keel, and daughter-in-law, Katie Keel, her siblings: Denny Skellie (Libby), Kenny Skellie (Tommie), Beverly Hiott (Joe), Pattie Sue Triola (Anthony), Buddy Skellie (Mel), Beth Adkins (Trace), Mike Skellie (Christy), and thirty nephews and nieces.

Jan was a light in the life of everyone she met, and insisted on kindness, encouraging it in all she knew. Countless people are better for having known her, and we will miss our beloved mother, sister, and friend.

Jan’s family will receive friends on Sunday, February 25, 2024 beginning at 3 p.m. with the memorial service following at 4 pm at Ridout’s Valley Chapel on Oxmoor Road in Homewood.

In lieu of flowers memorials in memory of Jan may be made to her favorite charity Hand in Paw.
