When Janet met Joseph Thompson, he was an army corporal. Upon Joe’s discharge, Jan and Joe married and moved to their forever home where they raised three children.
Janet loved caring for others so much that in 1965 she decided to attend nursing school. After graduating, she began working at University Hospital in Birmingham where she remained until 1973 when she was enlisted to help create and run the Central Supply Department at a brand-new Brookwood Hospital. Janet was very well respected in her field and known among the medical professionals as the one who could make things happen. Her assistance was often called upon by doctors in emergency situations.
After 30 years, Janet retired from Brookwood Hospital to enjoy her pet doves and listening to music. By far her favorite moments were the times spent with her adoring grandchildren.
Janet was predeceased by her husband Joe and their daughter Cynthia. She is survived by daughters Anita Morgan and Ashley Thompson; seven grandchildren Drew (Katrina) Morgan, Matthew (Laura) Morgan, Cameron Jones (Keith Jones), Candace Kreutztrager, PJ (Lindsey) Briggs, Brandy (Jimmy) Scott, Tate Thompson; eight great-grandchildren Fletcher Morgan, Spencer (Savanah) Briggs, Ember (Cody) Lee, Reggie (Carolina) Jones, Matie Walsh, Kenzie Briggs, Kennadie Briggs, Kalen Salyer; and one great-great-granddaughter Bridget Briggs.
A visitation will be held at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood on Thursday, August 8th from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held on Friday, August 9th at 10:00 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery.
