Jack is best known in the insurance world as a well-respected man of integrity, an icon of the industry. He established J. R Prewitt & Associates on November 15, 1974. What began as a one-man business grew into one of the largest family-owned agencies in the State of Alabama, now known as The Prewitt Group. From the beginning, Jack's work ethic was unmatched as he spent countless hours building his dream. His work was his passion, and just as Jack found no distinction between his work and his living, his clients were his friends and his friends were his clients; there was never a difference. He loved what he did and the people in his life in equal measure. Jack will be remembered for his keen business acumen, his sense of adventure, and his sharp wit. He was a sailing enthusiast, a licensed pilot, a wing-shooting gamesman, a street and off-road motorcyclist, a vintage car collector and rebuilder. He kept a meticulously clean workshop and loved to travel to historic places. Jack was a member of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church, Vestavia Country Club, and the Rotary Club of Shades Valley. He was active on the boards of Impact Family Counseling, Girls Inc., Workshops, Inc., and the Greater Birmingham Humane Society. Of all the worthy causes Jack supported, both personally and through his business, none was more important to him than World Reach, Inc. Founded by his brother Tim Prewitt, World Reach is a missionary agency spreading the word and love of Christ around the globe. Jack Prewitt lived a Christ-centered life of purpose, and he will be both greatly missed and fondly remembered. There will be a private family graveside service followed by a drive-by visitation on Wednesday, December 16, 2020. Anyone wishing to pay respects is welcome to drive through the parking lot of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church between 11:00 am and 12:00 pm. The entrance will be marked with a sign on the Canyon Road entrance of the church. Out of an abundance of caution, the family requests that everyone remain in your car and at the distance provided.
