Kathryn Lacy Boswell (Kitty), age 98, of Mountain Brook, Alabama, passed away on December 30, 2016.
Kitty was born in South Boston, Virginia. In 1928, the Lacy family moved to Birmingham’s East Lake neighborhood where Kitty attended Barrett Elementary School, Woodlawn High School, and Birmingham Southern College. She married Charley Boswell in 1942 and they shared 53 wonderful years together. Kitty was a long time member of Shades Valley Presbyterian Church serving as a Circle Leader for many years. She was a founding member and president of the Service Guild, a member of Women’s Committee of 100, Coronets Dance Club, La Luminere Literary Club, Vestavia Country Club and The Club. She enjoyed supporting the Birmingham Museum of Art, the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, and the Alabama Symphony.
Kitty lived a full life. In addition to her civic activities and church involvement, she enjoyed playing golf and bridge and, later, she became a budding artist. She and Charley traveled the country as he participated in his blind golfers events, making friends far and wide. But, more important to Kitty were her many friends here that filled her life. Kitty had many friends because she knew what it meant to be a friend.
Kitty was proud of her seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, all of whom adored her. The great-grandchildren loved visiting her, playing with her in her den while pulling toys out from the secret place under the stairs.
Kitty was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles Albert (Charley) Boswell, her parents Lura Byrum and Cecil Baker (Jack) Lacy, her sister Mary Lacy Moffett and brother Alexander Shelton Lacy. She is survived by her children Kay Boswell McCarty, Charles Albert (Chuck) Boswell, Jr. (Jane), and Stephen Douglas Boswell; grandchildren Frank Delmar Hill III, Sherer Boswell Thomson, Anne Lacy Boswell Wallace (John), Charles Shannon McCarty, Mary Margaret Boswell, Kathryn Hannah (Katie) Boswell, John Michael Boswell; great-grandchildren Jack, Charley, Evie and Annabel Wallace, and Charlie and Luke Thomson; sisters-in-law Mary Ann Boswell Givens and Carol Jemison Lacy, and beloved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Shades Valley Presbyterian Church on Thursday January 5, 2016 at 1:00 with visitation following the service. In lieu of flowers, Kitty asked that donations be made to Bell Center—Early Intervention, 1700 29th Court South, Homewood, AL 35209; Presbyterian Home for Children, 905 Ashland Highway, Talladega, AL 35160; or The Charley Boswell Golf Scholarship, Crimson Tide Foundation, The University of Alabama, P.O. Box 870343, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487-0343. The Family would like to thank Carolyn Lee and the staff of St. Vincent’s Hospice for their expert and compassionate care and especially Shirley Radforn, our Mom’s loving caregiver.
