

Leroy William Woody of Mountain Brook, Alabama, passed away on October 3, 2012. He was born April 17, 1938 in Iberia, Missouri, and was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William E. Woody.
Mr. Woody is survived by his wife Suzanne Greeley Woody, their five children, Deanna McCabe, of Montgomery, AL; Bill (Beth) Woody, of Birmingham; Michael (Sharon) Woody, of Mobile, AL; Mark Woody, of Birmingham, and Susan Woody, of Washington D.C., as well as grandchildren, Brandon McCabe, Mason McCabe, Allison McCabe, Kendall Woody, Jordan Woody, Matthew Woody, Jonathan Woody, Emily Woody, and siblings, Lucille (Ellis) Martin of Branson West, MO; Merilyn Stone of Bloomington, IL; Doris (Bill) Province of Ocean Springs, MS; Gary Woody of Crocker, MO, and Connie (Al) Horvath of Normal, IL.
Leroy graduated from Aurora University outside Chicago, IL. He completed a tour of duty with the Army in Edgewood Maryland at the Army Chemical Center before moving to Birmingham in 1963 where he began his career with Ernst & Young. He quickly developed into an outstanding tax professional and moved up to partner in charge of the tax practice for several years before retiring in 1996.
He was actively involved in church, community, and professional activities over the years, having served as president of The Estate Planning Council of Birmingham and The Birmingham Tax Forum, and as a founding director of The Alabama Planned Giving Council. Leroy was a member of The Samford University Planned Giving Advisory Board, The Children's Hospital Planned Giving Advisory Board, the Business Council of Alabama's Tax Committee, and The Alabama Society of CPA's State Taxation Committee. Leroy was a member of Canterbury United Methodist Church.
A service will be held at 10:00am in the chapel at Canterbury Methodist Church on Saturday, October 6th. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to The American Cancer Society.
