Martin Doyle Palmer

Martin was born September 29, 1940, in DeKalb, Mississippi, to the late Alvin and Shirley Peden Palmer. He is preceded in death by his son Martin David Palmer, and his brothers Freeman Palmer and Ramon Palmer.

In 2013 he married his wife Linda, who survives him. He is also survived by his children Ian Palmer, Claire Kirkpatrick, and Brooks Bashinsky, and his brother Mike (Janice) Palmer.

Martin graduated from Meridian High School and moved to Birmingham to attend Howard College. He attended The University of Alabama Medical School, graduating in 1966. He served in the Army for two years, and then went on to enjoy a long and rewarding career in Pathology, working for many years at Carraway Methodist Hospital and then Cooper Green Mercy Hospital. He retired in 2018 and he and Linda enjoyed spending as much time as possible at their beloved Smith Lake.

Due to Covid concerns, a graveside only service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on January 4th at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the charity of your choice.
