Mary Doherty Buckley

Mary Doherty Buckley 97, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2015 at her family’s home. She was born on January 5, 1918 in New Haven, CT. She graduated from Yale, School of Nursing in 1942. Mary enjoyed being a registered nurse for over 35 years.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Joseph Buckley, Jr. in 1992, her daughter Mary Rita Jones in 2000, and her daughter-in-law, Joan Mead Buckley in 2010. Mary and Frank were happily married for 47 years. They attended Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Huntsville, AL where they lived for 44 years.

Mary is survived by her son Frank Joseph Buckley, III of Birmingham, AL; son in law Steve Ross Jones of Atlanta, GA; and daughters Patricia Buckley (Rick) Jones of Fayetteville, GA; Maureen Buckley (Hugh) Lee of Chattanooga, TN; and Regina Buckley (Jay) Crump of Nashville, TN; and her 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grand-children.

A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, Birmingham, AL at 10:00 am, Monday, March 16, 2015 with visitation starting at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery, Huntsville, AL at 2:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to her great granddaughter’s Rett Syndrome medical fund. Checks should be made to Alyssa Lee and mailed to 6703 Winchester Lane, Pelham, AL, 35124.
