

Mary Elizabeth Breckenridge passed on Friday, March 13th after a short illness. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee on November 2nd, 1955. The first child of John and Charlene Gannon, Mary Liz grew up in Nashville. At the of age eleven the family moved to Mountain Brook, Alabama. She attended Mountain Brook Junior High School and then Mountain Brook High School. She went on to attend The University of Alabama at Birmingham majoring in Mathematics. Upon graduating with honors from college, she went into business with her father and brother in their family business, Gannon and Associates.
In 1977, she married her high school sweetheart, Steve Breckenridge. The two met in Keyboarding class in 10th grade, and have been together ever since. Their 38 years of marriage are a testament to the true love that they shared with each other and with the world.
Mary Liz was an devoted wife and mother to her two wonderful children, Jessica Breckenridge Free (29) and John Breckenridge (25).
She is survived by her husband, Steve and their two beloved children John and Jessica, Jessica’s husband Tony Free, her younger brother Stuart, and his wife Julie, and their children Carter, Julia, and Hap, Steve’s sister Sheila, brother Max, his wife Deana, and their three children, Max, Laura and Anna Louise
She will be remembered for her devotion to her faith, family, community, and her sharp wit and incredible intellect. Mary Liz was beloved by family and friends everywhere, and known for the beautiful light and joy she brought into every room.
A service celebrating her life will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church
(3775 Crosshaven Drive Birmingham, AL 35223) at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 17th. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.
