

Mary Jo Phillips, age 89, of Birmingham went to be with the Lord on Monday February 15, 2016. She was born in Enterprise, AL to the late Minnie Lee Glover and James Murray McNabb. Due to her mother’s death during childbirth she was raised on a farm by her grandmother, Leila Glover. She attended Mountain Brook Elementary, Phillips High School, Sullins Junior College, Birmingham Southern, and Auburn University where she graduated in education. She married her teenage sweetheart , Charles S. Phillips II in 1948. She was a member of the Birmingham Country Club, Community Bible Study, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Gaites Dance Club. She was a Beauty at Auburn and a member of the following sororities Alpha Delta Psi at Phillips and Kappa Delta at Auburn. She and her husband were world travelers. They took extended trips to Scotland, Mexico, Germany, England, France, Italy, Austria, Spain, Morocco, Canada, Africa, Asia, Israel, Switzerland, Bahamas, Russia and many places in the USA. She is survived by Charles S. Phillips II, her loving husband of 68 years, son Charles S. (Chuck) Phillips III, daughters Murray Phillips and Elizabeth Shackelford. Grandchildren; Charlie Goff, Stephanie Carter, Ashley Phillips, and Logan Phillips and one great-grandson Cameron Goff. She was preceded in death by her mother, father and stepmother Gertrude K. McNabb. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Briarwood Presbyterian Church or Gideons International, P.O. Box 101353, Birmingham, AL 35210. Visitation will be held on Friday February 19 at Briarwood Presbyterian Chapel at 10am. Funeral service will begin at 11am. Family is invited to the burial at Elmwood Cemetery immediately after the funeral.
