

LACKEY, MILDRED WALKER Mildred Walker Lackey passed away on August 20, 2010. Born in 1927 to Clyde and Ethel Jones Walker, she was descended from pioneering families in what is now Jefferson and St. Clair counties. On her maternal side, the Jones and Nail families were established in Jefferson County before Birmingham was founded. Her father's family, the Walkers, arrived in the Springville area after shortly after the American Revolution. Mildred was retired from South Central Bell and a Life Member of AT&T Pioneers. After her retirement she was active in Community Bible Studies and the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary. She held a founding membership in The Club, and was a member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church. Preceded by her parents and her beloved husband, Joseph Moore Lackey, she is survived by her daughter, Jamie Crockett(Ted), granddaughters, Elizabeth Catherine, brother Jack Coston Walker, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 24, 2010,5:00 till 7:00 p.m., at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood. Graveside services will be at Elmwood Cemetery in the Walker family plot, Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mildred's favorite charity; The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1105, Birmingham, Al 35202-1005. Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel (879-3401) Homewood, Al.
