Minnie Hayes Rast

She was born September 25,1923 to Drayton Burke Hayes and Minnie Brooks Hayes in Brewton, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her husband, Tom Rast, her sister, Martha Hayes Leath, her two brothers, Pat and Brooks Hayes, her son-in-law, Steve Lauten, and her grandson, Keith Baker Arendall, Jr.

She is survived by her children Martha Rast DeBuys (John), Nan Rast Lauten, Jane Rast Arendall (Keith); six of her grandchildren, Tommy Dewey (Helen), Alex Arendall, Hayes Arendall (Natalie), Billy DeBuys (Emily), Drayton Arendall (Megan), and Bradley Arendall Maroules (Nick); step grandchildren: Forrest DeBuys (Katherine), Holly DeBuys, Brian Lauten (Paige), Wright Lauten (Anna); and thirteen great grandchildren.

Minnie graduated from the University of Alabama and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and Phi Beta Kappa Society. She was on the boards of the YWCA and the St. Vincent’s Hospital Foundation, and a member of South Highland Presbyterian Church.

The family will be eternally grateful to Kennita Burpo for her tender and loving care for Minnie.
