

Nettie Elizabeth Morton Jenkins, age 95 passed away at Brookdale Healthcare Center in Birmingham on January 30, 2015. Elizabeth graduated from Hanceville High School in Cullman County and Birmingham Southern College. She retired from the Jefferson County school system as an art teacher. She loved to paint, to study art and to travel to destinations in the United States and foreign countries to study and view a wide variety of art. At the time of her death, she was a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood. Elizabeth was the daughter of Lois Elizabeth and John Henry Thomas, Garden City, Alabama and was born on January 21, 1920. She married Connie Bruce Morton of Pleasant Grove, Al in 1945. She and Bruce lived in Pleasant Grove until his death in 1984. In 1988, she married William Frank Jenkins of Commerce, Texas, and a high school classmate. They met for the first time at their 50 year high school reunion. They lived in Commerce, Texas, Cullman, and Birmingham. Frank passed away on September 6, 2014. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Lois and John Henry Thomas, for brothers: Curtis Thomas, Gordon Thomas, J.D. Thomas and Clarence Thomas; and four sisters: Essie Pullen, Lillian Seibert, Lola Williams and Minnie Bell Thomas. Elizabeth is survived by two sons: Joseph B. Morton (Margaret) and Bradford Thomas Morton (Sheila-deceased) as well as two grandsons; Joseph B. Morton Jr (great grandchild Linley Morton) and Matthew Easby Morton (Briana) and great grandchildren Harrison and Easby. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00, with a memorial service at 11:00 at the Ridout's Valley Chapel, Homewood on Monday February 2, 2015.
