April 9, 1947-April 6, 2022
Pat was born in Birmingham to Elsie and O.E. “Brad” Braddock. She was an only child for 16 years until sister Amy made a surprise appearance. A lifelong Alabamian, Pat attended W.A. Berry High School and Samford University.
She met the love of her life, Ken Burnett, while they both worked at Parisian in Vestavia. They married on July 22, 1967. They raised their son Scott, who had a happy, active childhood in baseball and BMX. Family and friends enjoyed their houseboat on Lay Lake.
The family expanded when Scott married Tabitha. “Pat Pat” was devoted to grandsons Zack and Max. She was their biggest supporter, cheering them on in all their sports and activities. Family beach trips were a favorite.
Pat was a Tinkerbell fan, perhaps because she had childhood dreams of flying. For Scott’s 40th birthday, she fearlessly jumped out of a perfectly good airplane with him in an epic skydiving adventure. (For the record, Pat jumped first.)
She enjoyed Jazzercise, slow-dancing in the kitchen with Ken and posting jokes on Facebook. She claimed St. Patrick’s Day as her own personal holiday.
Pat was the very definition of true friendship. Once you became her friend, you were family. As a real estate agent and later apartment manager at The Village at Caldwell Mill for nearly 20 years, Pat naturally gathered folks into her ever-widening circle, always seeing the best in people and helping them in any way she could. In the tributes that have poured in, a common theme is “Pat was my best friend.”
She had a heart big enough to hold us all.
Pat was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by husband Ken Burnett, son Scott Burnett (Tabitha), grandsons Zack and Max Burnett, mother Elsie Braddock, sister Amy Bailey (Wayne) and nephew Taylor Barton.
A Celebration of Life will commence at one o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 15th of April at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood. Friends are cordially invited to the reception immediately following the service in the Edgewood Room of Ridout's Valley Chapel.
The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to their
favorite charity.
