
Patricia “Pat” Smith Fitzgerald was born on February 11, 1937 to the late Christie and Morris Smith. Pat grew up in College Hills and was a member of McCoy Methodist Church along with her two sisters, one who passed away some years ago, Gene Smith Reese. Pat was a graduate of Phillips High School and Birmingham Southern College, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi social fraternity. She earned her Master’s Degree from Georgia State. After teaching in the Birmingham School Systems for a short time, she moved to Atlanta and taught for many years until her retirement. After retiring Pat moved back to Birmingham and served on the faculty at the University of Alabama in Birmingham School of Education for 10 years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Homewood.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister. She is survived by one sister Ann Morris Smith, one niece Patty Ann Meyer of Guilford, Connecticut, and one nephew Ed Reese of St. Petersburgh, Florida.
The family would like to thank Valerie Morris, Melanie Foster, Veronica Nash and Emma Baltimore for the love and aid that they gave Pat in her later years.
Graveside services will be at eleven o’clock in the morning on Tuesday the 7th of June 2022 at Elmwood Cemetery with Dr. Andrew Wolfe and Rev. Reid Crotty officiating the service.
