

Patricia (Pat) Gibbins Koors passed away on July 1st, 2018. Her parents were Jane and Dr. George W. Gibbins. Pat was born on April 19, 1945 in Cleveland, Ohio. She is survived by her son Johnny (Kristen): daughter Ellen; daughter Maria; and son Ken. She is also survived by three siblings, brother Dr. George Gibbins; sister Mary Monk; and sister Martha Rhodes. Her family includes many nieces and nephews.
Pat graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Agnes Scott College. She received her medical degree from the University of Alabama Medical School in 1972. She completed her residency at the University of Louisville and Fellowship at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. She practiced pediatric allergy in Anniston, Alabama. Pat also earned a MA in English Literature from Jacksonville State University, Alabama.
She was a caring mother of four children and passed down her interest in travel and the arts to them. Before one of her sons or daughters went to college, she handmade a quilt for each one.
Pat was an avid volunteer for the United Way and several local libraries. She had many hobbies that reflected her unique personality and creativity. She was a very talented pianist and organist and had a deep love for literature and reading. She was a devout Catholic and attended Our Lady of Sorrows in Homewood, Alabama.
Pat was known for her calming demeanor, and her brilliant intellect was matched only by her soft spoken, kind and gentle nature. She was never too busy to listen and always offered encouragement.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at 10 A.M. at Our Lady of Sorrows church in Homewood, Alabama. A funeral mass will follow at 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent to Catholic Charities. https://www.catholiccharitiesusa.org/.
