

Patricia McCoy Millhouse died on March 11, 2022 at the age of 97. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Arthur Bernard and Lorraine Wentzel McCoy on July 21, 1924. Patricia graduated from the Sacred Heart Academy and Washington University in Saint Louis. She met and married Roy Millhouse of Wilson, North Carolina in 1948 while he was employed in Saint Louis with Atlas Cement, a division of US Steel. They subsequently moved to Birmingham where they built their life together, raising three children. Mrs. Millhouse was a member of the Cherokee Bend Garden Club where she held various leadership positions. Mrs. Millhouse was a lover of the arts and was a docent at the Birmingham Museum of Art for over 35 years. She was recognized as the “Volunteer of the Year” and the “Docent of the Year” during her tenure. She was an expert in Wedgewood ceramics and was presented with a ceremonial piece of Wedgewood to acknowledge her decades of service.
Mrs. Millhouse was a devout Catholic and a parishioner at Our Lady of Sorrows and subsequently at Saint Francis Xavier Church for over a half century. She was an active member of the St. Elizabeth’s Altar Sodality at St. Francis for more than 30 years. Mrs. Millhouse was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Roy. She is survived by her daughter Ann Carr (Robert) and sons David Millhouse (Kate) and John Millhouse (Shannon) as well as six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mrs. Millhouse was blessed to have four caretakers, Katie Gunter, Marie Annello, Luann Phillips and Charity Karuri who were dedicated to making her last days as comfortable and meaningful as possible.
The family will receive friends at Saint Francis Xavier Church on Friday, March 18th beginning at ten o'clock in the morning. The funeral service will begin at eleven o'clock in the morning with Father Joe Culotta officiating.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family request with gratitude that memorial contributions in Patricia's name be directed to the Birmingham Museum of Art, Saint Francis Xavier Church or your favorite charity.
