Rick Moore of Homewood, AL passed away on August 8th, 2023 after a long illness. He was born in Montgomery, AL to Reuben and Jean Moore and later moved with his family to Huntsville, AL. He graduated from the University of Montevallo in 1973 and he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity where he made many lifelong friends. Rick worked for Moore Syndication, Inc. until his semi-retirement in 2019. Prior to that he was employed by the Southern Building Code Congress.
He is survived by his wife of forty-four years and business partner, Pamela Joseph Moore, his sons Richard Moore, Jr. (Stephanie), Stewart Moore (Melissa), granddaughter, Scarlet Moore and his sisters Elizabeth Oudejans (Lukas) and Cynthia Simon and niece Zoe Simon. He was much loved by us all and we will miss him.
Rick loved the outdoors, hiked the Grand Canyon and the Appalachian Trail, canoed the Boundary Waters in Minnesota and the Green River in Colorado. Those trips he often made with his sons or with his Fraternity brothers. He was leader in the Boy Scouts while his sons were active and led many camp outs. He was member of the Shades Valley Optimist Club and spent hours working their Christmas Tree lot that benefited local charities.
He was a long-time member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church and his ministry was cooking breakfast on Sundays for the congregation.
There will be a memorial service at all Saints’ Episcopal, 110 West Hawthorne, Homewood, AL 35209, on Friday, August 25, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. Donations can be made by check to the All Saints’ Episcopal Brick By Brick Campaign, The Nature Conservancy or the charity of your choice.
