Robert Kelly Blackburn (Bob) , 87, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, passed away on November 8, 2024 at his beloved farm. He was born on December 28, 1936 in Warrior, Alabama to Robert and Dena Blackburn. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Linda Blackburn; their children Leigh (Shawn) Wright, Jill (Mike) Horton, Christy (Russell) Hodge, and Rob Blackburn; grandchildren Aidan Wright, Ethan Wright, Kelsey Horton, Sophie Horton, Caroline Hodge, Alice Hodge, and Zuri Blackburn; sister Carolyn Odom, and brother Max (Lydia) Blackburn; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Seph Blackburn and Dena Fowler Blackburn, and brother Ferrell Blackburn.
Born and raised in Warrior, Alabama, Bob graduated from Warrior High School in 1955 and went on to earn his degree in Agricultural Engineering from Auburn University in 1961. He dedicated over 30 years to Alabama Power Company before retiring to spend more time with his greatest passion: his farm.
Bob was a man deeply committed to his community and family. He was a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church where he was a member of the New Horizons Sunday School class. His service to his country included time as a member of the Alabama National Guard.
He was a member of Concordia Dance Club and The Club where he enjoyed many fun times dancing with Linda and his family and friends. However his heart was most at home on his farm in Cane Creek, where he found joy in farming and taking care of his cows. Known for his ability to build or repair anything, Bob was always ready to lend a helping hand to friends and family. His service and dedication left an indelible mark on those who knew him. His children, grandchildren, and extended family will remember him as an inspiration—a man who embodied selflessness, resilience, and love.
Bob Blackburn will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness and the example he set will continue to guide those who were fortunate to know him.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 15, 2024 at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church at 12 noon. The Memorial Service will immediately follow at 1:00 pm.
