Mr. Byrd , 69, was born in Tuscaloosa, AL. His family moved several times during his childhood, including living in Waterford, Ireland for two years before settling in Vestavia Hills.
He graduated from W.A. Berry High School in 1972.
Bubba loved his family and friends fiercely. A true craftsman in the real sense of the word, he was an artist, builder and woodworker. He built and designed everything from furniture, cigar humidors and stringed instruments, just for his pleasure and enjoyment. He took even greater pleasure in giving them away to close friends and family.
During his work career he owned Custom Wood, Inc . and later he and his wife Sharon owned and operated Creative Surfaces, Inc. in Birmingham before retiring.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. Byrd, Martha Ann Jones Byrd, and his sister, Patti Lee Byrd.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Sharon Wallace Byrd, son Robert Gray Byrd, Jr., daughter Jessica Byrd Conner, and granddaughter Camille Elizabeth Conner, sisters Ginger Byrd McPherson (Ken) of Greensboro, GA, Laura Byrd Findlay (Bubba) of Tuscaloosa, AL, and brother in law, Steve Wallace (Kay) of Pensacola, FL: seven nieces and one nephew, as well as his beloved Band of Brothers and close friends.
As in life, his death marks a milestone in the lives of those he knew and loved. He was an amazing man.
His spirit has enriched the lives of so many. In our sorrow we find comfort in knowing that his life had meaning and touched the future in ways that we are yet to see.
