Roger John Salter, beloved husband to Maurreen, father to Alexander, Helen and Melanie, grandfather to Priscilla, Frayre, Layla, Indira and Elias, peacefully left his wife and children's presence as the grandchildren were not physically present with us in the comfort of his own home on Saturday evening at 6:35 to the safety of his Father's warm embrace.
Born in Hobart, Tasmania on January 21st, 1945 to Rex McLaren Salter and Constance Joyce Amelia Salter (nee Cooper), he moved to England in his 20s where he married Maurreen and entered Trinity Theological College before being ordained into the Church of England and ministering within several parishes there until being led to St. Matthews Anglican Church in Birmingham, Alabama in 1994.
Roger's last preachment at St. Matthews was during Easter of 2024. In those 30 years he diligently and winsomely proclaimed the gospel of Christ's salvation for all from the pulpit, his pen, and his character in ordinary life.
Instead of flowers, he would be honored to have donations made to support two ministries for which he had a particular affection -- Chris Arnzen's Iron Sharpens Iron radio program: https://ironsharpensironradio.com/ and David Virtue's VirtueOnline website: https://www.virtueonline.org/
A funeral service will be held at Grace Covenant Baptist Church, located at 2565 Rocky Ridge Road, Vestavia Hills, Alabama, 35243. The service is scheduled for December 19, 2025, starting at 11:00 a.m. with the family receiving friends following the service.
A livestream will be provided on https://www.gracecovenantbaptist.org/.
