Sarah D. Cale

Sarah Davenport Cale, 97 of Vestavia Hills, AL passed away on February 17, 2015 at home with her family. She was born in Alabama on January 5, 1918. Mrs. Cale is preceded in death by her husband John C. Cale, Jr., parents Rev. G.M. and Sallie McCoy Davenport and siblings George M. Davenport, Jr., James M. Davenport, Annie D. Guthrie and Jean Davenport. She is survived by her daughter Sallie C. Dunphy, son-in-law Michael Dunphy and grandson Jack. The family wishes to express our heartfelt gratitude to her caretakers Nancy Rabiee, Donna Contorno, Jennifer Sanders and the team of nurses.

Mrs. Cale graduated from the University of Alabama on a music scholarship in 1939. She loved teaching children. She was a member of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church where she taught the 5 year old “Giraffe” class for 40 years. She was a volunteer at St. Vincent’s Hospital nursery for many years.

Visitation will be Saturday February 21, 2015 at 10am with an 11am service at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church Chapel. Following will be a graveside burial at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
