Sarah Christian McGee, a native of Vestavia Hills, passed away unexpectedly on November 14, 2025, at the age of 64. She was a woman dedicated to her faith, family, and calling as a nurse and caregiver, embodying these values throughout her life.
Sarah lived her life with unmatched selflessness, inspiring everyone who knew her with her unwavering kindness and devotion. A graduate of the University of Alabama, she was a dedicated member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. It was there that she met the love of her life, Eric McGee, and together they were married for 42 wonderful years, raising three children who are her pride and joy.
She poured herself completely into family. Nothing brought her more joy than her two lucky dogs and the grandbabies who lovingly called her “Say-Say.” The highlight of her weeks always involved taking her grandkids to the zoo, swimming at the pool, or spoiling them with sweet treats—moments filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Her heart radiated through every story she shared about them—stories filled with love, joy, and pride that could be felt by all who listened. Sarah’s heart was especially drawn to Grayton Beach, where she loved sitting on the pier, watching the sunset surrounded by her family and her doting pack of dogs.
Sarah was even known to some as “Wonder Mom”. They marveled at her tireless energy and commitment to her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was a doer who awoke absurdly early for her patients, stayed up late for everyone else, and left a mark on so many with her trademark thoughtful kindness. Her integrity was uncompromising. She was a lady in every circumstance, known for her beauty and sweet smile.
Her calling to nursing became her lifelong vocation, and for more than 40 years, she served patients, families, and colleagues at Brookwood Hospital. Sarah was, in every sense, an exemplary nurse—steady, dependable, thoughtful, and warm. Her dedication to her patients was unmatched, and she always left each one better than she found them. Her greatest gift was the innate ability to make patients feel at ease. To work beside her was an honor; to know her was a true blessing. She was a shining light to everyone around her.
Sarah was preceded in death by her mother, Nana Gill Christian; her father, John Robert Christian; her sister, Susan Gill Christian; her niece, Elizabeth Apicella Sims; and her nephew, John R. Christian III.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Eric Grafton McGee, Jr.; her beloved children, William Grafton McGee, Kyle Robert McGee (Morgan), and Caroline Christian Hawk (Burnham); and her grandchildren, Grafton Scott Hawk, Burnham “Burns” Scott Hawk, Jr., and James Hayward McGee. She is also survived by her brother, John Robert Christian, Jr. (Meg); her sister, Nancy Christian Stein (David); her niece—practically her daughter—Jennifer Apicella; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins who adored Sarah.
A memorial service will be held at 11am with visitation at 10am on Friday November 21st in the Chapel at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, 1114 Oxmoor Road, Homewood Alabama,
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to Weimaraner Rescue of the South or to Dawson Memorial Baptist Church.
