Susanne Elizabeth Billions, age 81, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away suddenly after a brief illness on June 2, 2026. Born March 26, 1945, in Knoxville, Tennessee, she lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and the many people blessed to know her. Her passing leaves a deep emptiness, but also a legacy of kindness, strength, and love that will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
Susanne was the daughter of Harvey E. Rench and Beulah Pyles Rench. She graduated from Coffee High School in Florence, Alabama. On March 1, 1963, she married James (Jim) Richard Billions, beginning a marriage lasting 63 years. Together they built a family rooted in love, making a life in Birmingham after moving there in 1966.
For 20 years, Susanne served as an Executive Assistant, and for 11 years as a Patient Care Coordinator at St. Vincent’s Hospital. In every setting, she was known for her hard work, her generosity, and her dependable spirit. She approached life with a steady heart, organized determination, and a thoughtful mind. Those around her came to appreciate not only what she did, but the warm and capable presence she brought to every day. She was quick-witted and clever, with a sense of humor as funny and smart as she was loving.
Faith was central to Susanne’s life. She loved the Lord and the Word of God, and this devotion shaped the way she lived and cared for others. She loved music and found joy in playing the piano, singing in the church choir, and participating in her ladies group from church. She also loved bird watching and growing flowers, especially roses and irises, finding delight in the beauty of creation and the simple pleasures of home and garden.
Above all, Susanne cherished her family. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and she held each of them close to her heart. She is survived by her husband, Jim Billions; her son, Bryan Edward Billions; daughter-in-law Jill Billions, and her grandchildren, Autumn Billions, Joshua Billions, Ethan Billions, and Oakley Billions; her sister, Mary Ellen Owensby; brother, Harvey Rench II; nephew, Harvey Rench III, and niece, Lela Rench. She loved her family deeply and was, in every sense, family-focused. Her kindness, her loyalty, and her generous spirit were gifts she gave freely and often.
Susanne Billions will be remembered for the goodness she brought into the lives of others. She lived with faith and strength, with her life reflecting the values she held dear. Though her passing came suddenly, the love she gave and the memories she created will endure. Her family and friends will long cherish the joy of having known her and the blessing of her presence in their lives.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on June 20, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at Riverchase Community Church.
