Susan, I just received a copy of the death claim for Fred from Transamerica . I worked with Fred at Compass and did the Transamerica life insurance policy for him while I was employed there. I am happy to know you will receive this benefit but sorry to hear of Fred's passing . Gene Smith

I am so sorry to hear about Fred's passing.  I knew Fred way back before we were both transferred by South Central Bell to Bham.   He was always such a kind and gentle man.   I ran into another good friend of Fred's today, Jerry Neel, and told him about Fred.  Jerry was unaware of Fred's passing and, in fact, had the opportunity of talking to Fred less than a week ago.   Jerry and I shared our memories of Fred today and feel blessed to have known him.   I will keep you and your family in my prayers.  I am sorry I was unable to attend the funeral but could not readjust my work schedule.  May God give you comfort during this time of grief.

'Freddy", and family grew up behind us in Jackson, Miss. We played together almost every day, went to the same church, played cowboys in vacant lot adjoining our houses. He was quiet, gentle, and strong. Never said anything bad about anybody, good to see he kept these virtues. Shirley, our family gives you our sincere condolences. My condolences to the family. Fred became a very good friend of mine while I worked at BBVA as an IT Security Auditor - one of the few. His charm, laugh, and wit will be sorely missed, yet heaven has gained a mighty soldier.

I would like to thank Fred and Susan for the many years that they helped to serve at the First Holy Communion reception for the Parish School of Religion at Our Lady of Sorrows Church.  Fred was the only husband that would come with his wife to help make the reception go smoothly.  He would help to put out food and then clear tables after the reception was over. I was always impressed that he was so willing to do whatever we asked with a smile. He will be missed.

Fred was a wonderful person.  We enjoyed him sitting with us at lunch and he always spoke so highly of his family.  We are devasted at his passing.  Our thoughts are all of you.

Next to my father Fred was the kindest man and a true southern gentleman (reminded me of my dad every day at work)-- I enjoyed working with him. I attended Jr High & High school with Fred and although we have lost touch, I still considered him a good friend. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Words cannot do justice to my high opinion of Fred.  I had the pleasure of working in the same department with him for almost nine years and continued to see him around the bank and at the IIA board and CPE meetings.  Never once did Fred fail to greet me with a smile and usually a handshake.  Riding on the elevator with him, if he didn't know someone, he would introduce himself and ask them for their name.  I was always amazed at the names Fred knew.  He would stop and take the time to ask people about their day or their lives.  

It is no wonder utter kindness and selflessness describe Fred in my mind.  If he knew you needed something, he would do whatever he could to help you.  He always thought of others before himself.  He was a model employee, co-worker, but most of all, human being.  I cannot picture Fred without seeing his smile because it's what I saw all the time.  What a testimony to his life!

My sincerest sympathies to Susan and the family.  Fred is loved by many and touched so many lives.

Fred was one of the kindest people I have ever met.  He was a pleasure to work with at BBVA Compass.  In 2002 when my husband passed away he was so kind in my time of sorrow. Susan, Michael and Daniel my heart breaks for you.  Fred was an amazing man with a heart so full of love for others it was over flowing.   Fred lived his life as the Bible outlines in Matthew:   “Whatever you do unto the least of my brothers, you do it unto Me.”  I've never known a more giving man.  I feel so blessed to have the honor of working with him since 1996 and being his friend.  I was honored by his sponsorship of me in Cursillo which I know meant just as much to him as it did for me.
