Born in Birmingham, Alabama, he graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. He then returned to Birmingham and joined the family practice, Standifer’s Animal Clinic, where he worked until his retirement in 2019.
Dr. Standifer’s gentle spirit and kind nature gave him a unique ability and insight to care for animals throughout his long career in veterinary medicine. He ran a compassionate practice and was deeply devoted to his clients, frequently working long hours seven days a week and making himself available at any time, day or night. Clients often expressed appreciation for his special gift in providing support and comfort during their beloved pet’s final days.
Wayne was often quiet and meditative, enjoying walks in the woods with a dog by his side. His family was always the most important part of his life. Also known as “Big Daddy,” he adored his children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them in nature. After retirement, he enjoyed many trips to the beach and the lake with family and took several international trips with his wife of forty-one years, Carol Mathews Standifer, who held a special place in his heart.
