Ian Gerald Way, 74, of Homosassa, FL, passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 8, 2022 in his home with his loving wife beside him. A native of Oak Park, IL, he was born Oct. 5, 1947 to Robert and Florence (Aichinger) Way, one of three children. Ian served his country honorably and proudly in the Wisconsin Army National Guard. He worked in retail management at Sears Roebuck Company for 34 years in Wisconsin while raising his family. After retirement, he moved to Homosassa to enjoy the warm temperatures and plan travel adventures. He loved going on cruises with his beloved wife Doris, and enjoyed over 70 multi-national experiences. Ian was fascinated with WWII and presidential history and was a trivia master. He was a movie buff and went to the theater with his movie club and enjoyed Turner Classic Movies while at home. He loved following sports on television and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, a die hard Chicago Cubs fan and also followed golf, college basketball and hockey.
In addition to his parents, Ian was preceded in death by a brother, David Way. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Doris Ruby Way of Homosassa; daughters Dawn Pfaff (husband Tim) of Grafton, WI and Kelly Weibel (husband Dan) of Chilton, WI: brother Michael Way (wife Linda) of Mesquite, NV and grandchildren Canon Pfaff of Grafton, WI; Hannah Weibel of Madison, WI; Graylin Bauereis of Rochester, MN and Emma Weibel of Chilton, WI. We would like to thank Ian’s family and his many friends who have been so kind and supportive during his difficult journey. Special thanks to the “Grumpy Old Men’s Club” who included Ian in their activities and visited often when he could no longer attend.
A Celebration Of Life at 1st United Methodist Church with Pastor Patti Aupperlee officiating will be held on Tuesday, August 16th at 11:00 am with a reception in the Fellowship Hall to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts will be used to purchase a bench for the Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park, one of Ian’s favorite local places to visit.
