Irene "Mike" Joan Hillengas Renbarger

Irene “Mike” Joan Hillengas Renbarger, 77, of Homosassa, FL passed away on Sat., May 4, 2013. A native of Washington, D.C., she was born Feb. 9, 1936 to Gilbert and Bertha (Bell) Hillengas, one of two children. She moved to St. Petersburg in 1942. Mrs. Renbarger enjoyed a successful professional career with a number of school systems during her working life from 1954 to 1964. She held administrative positions at St. Petersburg High School with Dr. Geneva’s office, Superintendent Floyd Christian’s Office of Education for Pinellas County and Bucholtz High School in Gainesville. She also held volunteer positions at Archbishop Curley High School, Miami and St. Patrick’s Middle School, Miami Beach. Mrs. Renbarger was also a former member of the Board of Directors of Bay Point Property Owners Association in Miami. She was of the Methodist faith and member of Homosassa First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Renbarger touched the lives of those she knew with her gentle, optimistic and loving spirit. Above all, Mrs. Renbarger was the center of her family. She loved life and raised her three children with love, laughter and selflessness. She shared this love with her three grandchildren whom she adored. Mrs. Renbarger moved to Homosassa from Miami in 1991 upon the retirement of her husband of 56 years, James Renbarger, from his position as CFO of the Miami Herald. She is survived by her husband James “Jim” A. Renbarger, Homosassa, FL, son Stan A. Renbarger (wife Kathleen), Louisville, KY; son Jay E. Renbarger, Jacksonville, FL; daughter Karen L. Renbarger, Hollywood, FL; sister Lucille Pewsey, Kingman, AZ; granddaughter Nicolette Renbarger, Jacksonville, FL.; grandchildren Steven and Kristen Renbarger, Louisville, KY and niece Lori Lefebvre, Phoenix, AZ. A Memorial Service of Remembrance will be held on Sat., May 11th at 3:30 P.M. at Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa, FL.
