

Joan H. “Joanie” Fordham, 65, of Homosassa, FL, passed away on Wed., Nov. 20, 2024 at HCA Florida Citrus Hospital in Inverness, FL. A native of Bridgeport, CT, she was born Dec. 26, 1958 to Joseph and Anna (Drbul) Balash, one of three children. A retired financial analyst in the investments industry, Joanie, as she was known to many, moved to Homosassa in 2021 from Connecticut, where she had lived all of her life. She was of the Roman Catholic faith and was an avid Star Wars, Star Trek and Perry Mason fan as well as an old movie buff. Westerns, classics and even the campy horror flicks were among her favorites. She enjoyed going to Disney and she followed the Doberman Club on Facebook. An accomplished musician, Joanie played guitar for many years, starting with a youth folk group in the 1970’s. She also played and collected ukuleles. Joanie could always be seen with a coffee cup in her hand and her Doberman, Kona, by her side. Joanie was predeceased by her father, Joseph M Balash; her brother, Joseph J. Balash and sister in law, Susan Balash. Survivors include her mother, Anna J. Balash, of Spring Hill, FL; her sister Mary Ann and husband Alan Craig of Homosassa, FL and several nieces in CT. . A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Crystal River at a later date and will be announced. Macrini-Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa, FL.
