Christobal Juan Quintana, or as he is known to us Cookie, or Papa Cookie, was born on December 4,1933, in the small town of Mora, New Mexico. He was born to Beniberto Quintana and Raquel Blea. He spent his early years in Mora, New Mexico, doing farming work. He realized however, that farming life is not for him, so at the age of 17 he decided to serve our country and joined the U. S. Navy. He served under his duty assignment at U.SS. Jenkins from January 14, 1952, through July 2, 1959.
During his time in the Navy, he was awarded and entitled to wear numerous medals/ribbons, which included The National Defense Service Medal, United Nation Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, and The China Service Medal. His years in the Navy also blessed him with being able to experience the excitement of living in different countries and he became enamored with the Orient like Japan and Korea. He served in the U.S. Navy for eight years, and left the service in the year 1959.
After his service, he worked various jobs until he found his calling, and enrolled in hairstyling school. Once he finished school and attained his license, he started working as a hairstylist and eventually operated his own shop. Once he started his own shop, he was able to accumulate nregular customers who eventually stayed loyal to him and became not just his customers, but his lifelong friends. He practiced the hairstyling trade for 50 years and retired from it at the age of 84.
He married Susana Cruz on December 15,1984 in Honolulu, Hawaii. They shared a wonderful life for 43 years. He is survived by his children Ilan (Steve), Christopher (Vy), Sturmar (Christine), Ginger, and Sky (Kaipo). Cookie enjoyed watching his wrestling matches and Japanese shows, and later on, switched to Cowboy movies. He also enjoyed his long walks with his wife, and occasionally, going to the movies and eating at different restaurants.
Cookie will surely be missed by the many people whose lives he touched, especially in-laws, who in his own words, “spoils him rotten”. We love you Cookie, rest in peace, and you will forever be in our hearts.
