Dear Kathy and Gary,
My deepest sympathy and condolences on the passing of your mother. Sharon (in spirit) and I have fond memories of Elsie. She was a very kind, loving, friendly, thoughtful and generous person. We are so grateful and enjoyed the many Diamond Head Theater stage plays and the wonderful dinners throughout the years.  Gary, we appreciate your driving all of us to the theater and the restaurants. You were our private chauffeur!  Our conversations at dinner were interesting,  enjoyable and funny! Elsie always had a pleasant disposition.  I never saw her angry or upset.

In most of my memories, great grandma was often sleeping in her room. It was always a Wednesday afternoon and sometimes a Thursday, and I'd try to stop by her door and whisper thank you. Thank you for her generosity and care that I continuously felt passed down to me through the 3 generations before me, and I would pray that she'd understand I was grateful. My grandmother was, from what I'd seen, the closest to her and always working hard to ensure she was doing well. It allowed me to connect with Great Grandma more, earlier at weekly dinners at zippys, later through cards and home visits. If it weren't for my grandmas loving efforts to keep her in her home, I might have never known her. When I did speak to her, she always remembered me, which never ceased to bring me joy as I had been in her life the shortest as the youngest in the Uchida-Chang family. She had an aura of thoughtfulness to her. The last time I saw her, she wasn't sleeping, and her eyes still had the same thoughtfulness I'd always known.

So happy to have known Elsie! We have many fond memories of her, especially of her laughing. So thankful she and her family adopted us when we moved to Hawai'i.
One time, I told Andrew we were going to his grandma's house for dinner. He looked at me with a quizzical look and said, "Auntie Carol, my grandma doesn't cook." Then he said, "Maybe she's taking you somewhere."
At a restaurant, the waiter brought the check and Elsie got a card out of her wallet. Shortly thereafter, he came back and said, "Ma'm, this is a very nice photo, but I can't use this." She'd inadvertently given him her driver's license instead of a credit card. She laughed, but was so embarrassed.
