Born in Montgomery, Alabama he grew up travelling the world with his family as part of his father's Air Force duties. This included time in Montgomery, AL, Savannah, GA, Philadelphia, PA, Azores, Portugal, and Mtn. Home, ID.
He joined the Navy in 1977. A hardworking and diligent man, Frank was a Submariner who earned a Warfare Dolphin pin, Navy Achievement medal, Naval Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Navy Unit Commendation pin. He was the leading Chief Petty Officer onboard the USS Cavalla SSN-684. He forged lifelong friendships and connections while attending Boise State University, (Idaho), DeVry Institute of Technology, (Phoenix, AZ), and courses at Hawai’i Pacific University (Hawai'i).
His time in the Navy eventually brought him to Hawai'i in 1979. Some time later he married and started a family; became an active and integral part of Sacred Heart Parish - Waianae, instructed youth in chess at the local Boys and Girls Club, and enjoyed the beautiful drive out to Yokohama Bay (Keawaula Beach). Family was important to him. He spent time researching and connecting with family via Facebook and other internet connections.
As a youth/young adult his interests included skiing, and playing musical instruments such as the French horn, and guitar. He also volunteered for the National Forest Service during his summers fighting forest fires. His adult leisure activities included long distance walking, photography and videography, snorkelling, hang-gliding, learning to fly and learning to speak Mandarin. Frank enjoyed a life-long love of chess; beyond playing, he taught many others to play and is remembered fondly for introducing the game with the kindness and patience he was known for.
Words alone cannot begin to describe the precious gift it was to have had Frank in our lives. We hope all who remember him are forever reminded of his kind heart, compassionate nature, love for helping others and his profound love of God. We are so lucky to have known and loved him.
He is survived by his wife (Teresita Trippett), daughter (Martinea Trippett), son (Marlon Luna), and sisters (Sr. Gail Trippett, CSJ, Srs. of St. Joseph of Carondelet; and Dr. Tanya M. Trippett MD).
