Lana Anela Soares was born December 13, 1938 to Susan Ahn Soares and Antone Sores in Kahuku, Hawaii. She had 2 younger siblings, brother Anthony “Sonny” Soares, and sister Gwendolyn “Gwen” Lau. She attended Moanalua Elementary and then was accepted into Kamehameha schools in 7th grade. She eventually graduated from Kamehameha Schools with the class of 1957.
She married David Roy Hudson of East Texas in April 1959. They had a son Doyle in August 1961 and a daughter Suzanne in May 1963. The family moved to Texas in1968 and 2 years later to Georgia. She held a receptionist job at Air France during that period where they called her “pineapple” because she was from the islands. She always wore aloha attire on “Aloha” Fridays and her co-workers loved it!
The family moved back to the islands in 1972 and set up house in Kailua. Her kids were her life even though she worked. She spent many a weekend working a concession stand for Doyle’s swim meets, or selling Christmas trees for the swim team fundraiser. She also took time to get Suzanne to hula or dance class. Family was her main priority.
In 1978 the family was on the road again and moved to California. They were there for over 20 years. That’s when Lana picked up the game of golf. You can’t work for the #1 golf company and not golf! She was hooked. Then in 2003 it was time to retire. She couldn’t pass up an invitation by her son-in-law to “retire to Hawaii”.
Retirement ended up being grandma time. Her granddaughter Lillian Anela was born April 2004. She was the apple of grandma’s eye! Lana took to being a grandma quite enthusiastically. Anyone who knew Lana, knew about Lily. Lana then took up tennis as wholeheartedly as golf. She was playing up until about 6 months ago. She never did anything halfway.
Lana Anela Soares Hudson was a loving, caring daughter, sister, mother, auntie, and grandma!
