97, beloved mom, popo, taipo, and friend passed away on October 17, 2020, in Honolulu. She was born on June 22, 1923, in Canton, China. Mostly everyone who came in contact with her affectionately called her “Popo”. Popo (not knowing any English), would talk to everyone in Enpingnese. She would always end the conversation with a smile and a hand over her mouth to suppress a giggle knowing full well that her message could not be understood by any of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were born in the states! But oh, did we all love her spunk!

She is preceded in death by a daughter, Yue Yuan Feng, and her loving husband, Yuan Jiu Feng.

She is survived by daughters Yuet May (Lin Shun) Louie, Yue Xiang (Joan Lin) Feng, Yuet Chun (Ji Qiao) Liang; son-in-law Wotaang Feng of China; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Private services were held. Arrangements Provided by Hawaiian Memorial Cemetery.

Biography

At 97 years old, Liugui Mo was a beloved mom, popo, and taipo who peacefully passed away on October 17, 2020 in Honolulu, Hawaii. To all who knew her, she was affectionately known, just as Popo. She seemed to be eternally happy, and she willingly shared that joy with anyone whose life she touched.

For Popo, bringing out the best in any situation was as easy as offering a smile, a witty remark and giggle or the twinkle of an eye. And with just those simple gestures, she could elicit the most pleasant of emotions. Popo really mastered the art of living healthy and staying strong.

Her parents were Hua Pan Mo and Jian Hao Zhou. Popo was born on June 22, 1923 and raised in Enping city in Canton, China. At 17 years old, she married Yuan Jiu Feng and together they raised four daughters. With no education or formal training as a child, she was a hard worker, teaching herself to cook, grow vegetables, embroider and hand sew clothes for her family. She was a homemaker at a time when there were no modern luxuries as turning on a faucet for water, or flipping on a switch for electricity -- which many of these basic luxuries are now enjoyed by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren today who live in the United States!

At 76 years young and widowed, Popo took her first airplane ride...leaving China for Hawaii to be with her daughters and grandchildren who had emigrated to the US years earlier.

Her new life in America, allowed her to embrace and love each of her growing brood of great-grandchildren and a whole new generation! Though Popo never learned English, she related well to her great-grandchildren since she was really just a "kid at heart"!

Favorite vacations include going back to China to visit family and relatives.

Popo is preceded in death by daughter, Yue Yuan Feng and loving husband, Yuan Jiu Feng. Popo was blessed with daughters, and survived by Yuet May (Lin Shun) Louie, Yue Xiang (Joan Lin) Feng and Yuet Chun (Ji Qiao) Liang, son-in-law, Wotaang Feng of China; Grandchildren: Susan (Reynold) Hong, Sarah Louie, Sherman (Kris) Louie, Sherwin (Lena Takashima) Louie, Stella (Gary) Lockwood, Hai Hua ( ) Feng, Sandy ( ) Feng, Sarah (Raymond) Sah, Yu Dan Feng, ________ ( ) Feng, Hong Mei (Kelly) Yong, and Yuling (Xiaowei Chen) Feng of China. Great-grandchildren: Aspasia Hong, Tyler Momohara, Jayden Matsui, Christian Louie, Jenna Louie, Joseph Louie, Brandon Lockwood, A7lison Lockwood, _______________________________ Kayla Yong, Ayden Yong, Zhiming Chen and Junkai Chen of China.

Popo died peacefully after recuperating from pneumonia during a worldwide coronavirus pandemic. Services were held at the Makai Chapel at Borthwick Mortuary and she was laid to rest in Hawaiian Memorial Cemetery in Kaneohe, Hawaii.
