Richard lived in Hauʻula, where he was surrounded by family friends and the place he loved. He loved the ocean and was an amazing Fisherman he also loved being in the mountain and was a great hunter. He was a solid husband, father, grandpa and friend, whose presence left a lasting impact on all who knew him. My dad made friends anywhere and everywhere he went. He had such a big kind heart and was such a hard worker.
If you knew him he was always walking or riding bike or driving around cruising through the town or throwing net or fishing or just stopping by to talk story! He was always a hard worker. He had such a big heart and was kind to everyone he would meet. He always gave whatever he could to anyone. He always had so much love and aloha to give!!! He made friends with everyone.
Hauula isn’t the same without him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Michele Akina Slavens, and his daughters, Monique Akina-Morgan (Raymond Watson) Angel Slavens (Jesse Balucan) Michele-Piilani Slavens( Skye Kahala). With 12 grandchildren Mystique, Malique , Maverique, Akirra, Denali-Rose, Rythmn, Riley, Rhaiya, Rhoryele, Roman, Beloved Royce, & Rhyme. Who brought him great joy. He always put smiles on their faces bringing them toys and bikes and anything you could think of. He loved making them laugh and smile or even just “making trouble” as he would say . He was such a great papa to them all. His family was his pride and joy!
