Roman Reese Richardson, 75, of Kalihi, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025. He is survived by his devoted wife of 24 years, Gina Richardson; and his beloved children Malisa (Steve), Roman Jr. (Shandri), Desiree (James), Candyce (Malina), Aaron (Kiraley), Brandon (Tina), and Janelle (Anthony).
Roman is also survived by 10 grandchildren—Amber, Roman III, Tony, Courtney, Chayden, Cory, Dwight, Mark, Kailee, and Gianna—and 9 great-grandchildren: Maka, Keeleigh, Leikynn, Aeva, Jett, Noel, Everleigh, Mason, and Levi.
Born to Elizabeth Pua Kamalii and Joseph R. Richardson, Roman was one of seven children. He is survived by his siblings Sonja, Wayne, Junior, Robert, and Ronald, and was predeceased by his sister Stella.
A proud graduate of Farrington High School Class of 1968, Roman went on to build a long and dedicated career with the OTS Bus Company, retiring on April 1, 2013, after 34 years of service. After retirement, his passion for helping youth led him to volunteer at Kalakaua Gym, where he later became a permanent employee. It was there that he earned the nickname “Coach RJ,” serving as a monitor and boxing coach and mentoring countless young people and friends. His impact on the Kalihi community was profound and far-reaching.
Roman was a Christian who had also studied with Jehovah’s Witnesses in his earlier years. Deeply rooted in Kalihi, he remained close to his family and community throughout his life. He will be remembered for his generosity, his strong faith, his dedication to service, and the many lives he touched with his guidance, humor, and heart.
