My dad was not a perfect dad. I know throughout the years he grew to be the person he was in the end. To us he was dad, daddy, and father. I would consider my Dad to be a cool dad. Teaching us to ride a bike, play kickball or pop fireworks. We would watch sports, play sports, and bet on sports together. Parlay Anyone? He loved to eat out too so he would bring us to nice restaurants like Shakey’s Pizza, Aiea Chop Sue, or Anna Millers.
John – “He took me to John Dominis.” “And Nicolas Nicolas!” Even though he was a really good cook. We will miss his Pork Guisantes and Adobo. He did love his Poke, Sashimi, and Pho even if it was pureed’.
Did I mention he was a cool guy? He had comadres, compadres, and the Sindicado. All jokes aside. If you saw a bright orange Ford or a classy black Lincoln Continental cruising down the road, you knew, That was my dad. He wore black shades or gold framed tinted glasses, a gold watch, a gold ring, and a gold chain with a Cross. He carried a black soft or hard briefcase with ? inside. You fill in the blanks. He hung out with some cool uncles too like the The Sado brothers, Sadorra’s, Uncle Nick, and the Ramiscal’s either going to chicken fights, playing Pepeeto or Paiut in the backyard during parties, and cooking for parties. Thank you, Uncle Ben for visiting my dad during Dialysis and talking about the good old days. I know you have been long time comadres.
My dad was so cool. Again how cool was he? He was so cool that he would have his children hang out at his work, The bar, whether it was at Hawaiian Hut watching the Hula Shows or Holiday Inn sitting at the bar or on the bar drinking Shirley Temples, eating maraschino cherries or stale bar snack food. When family came to town like from Maui, Georgia, or Canada he would treat us to go see the Society of Seven or Ricky and Ricardo.
My daddy was the coolest! He had 8 kids. So, a busy guy, sometimes he was there and sometimes he was not. Reiterating, he was not a perfect dad.

A memorial to provide us comfort, a sense of peace, and solace while we sit outside in our backyard. 
I feel and hear your continued presence. 
The gentle sound is a reminder of the connection shared with you, "Listen to the wind and know I am near". 

There will be days when your chimes:

One of many memories was watching my Dad work at Holiday Inn Airport and the Hawaiian Hut at Ala Moana Hotel. I would sit at the bar on one of those swivel bar stools (I remember Dad brining home some of those Blue Bar Stools) and/or actually sit on the bar (when I was much younger) and watch him mix drinks, eat stale bar snacks, and he would make me a Shirley Temple with lots of maraschino cherries.🍒
One of these days I will look at the copies of these drink recipes and create them in honor of you Dad.🍸🍹
I might need some help drinking them all!😜 PARTY TIME!🥳

Dear Heavenly Father God,
Only you, All Powerful, Faithful, Trusting, and True God are able to do all things.
I pray for all those who are remembering and grieving the loss of our Dad, Daddy, Father, Papa, Grandpa and Great Grandpa, etc. Please help us to find peace in Your presence and hold on to the hope of eternity... Bring comforting memories to our mind and healing to the places that still hurt. 
Lord you commanded us to honor our father and our mother; We lift up our Dad to you. May your blessings be upon him. We know that you love him way more than we could ever love him. We pray that your mercy and grace cleanse the soul of my father, and forgive his trespasses; and may we see him again in your heavenly kingdom. 
We Thank you for our dad and the life you allowed him to live. Even through the good, the bad and the ugly. He was not perfect. Thank you, Lord Jesus, you are the only perfect lamb of God. Glory be to you, Christ our Savior and light for the world in whose name we pray. Amen!

He has 8 kids. Reiterating, he was not a perfect dad. 1st, Joel, in Vegas who is recuperating from surgery. When he was young he lived in the Philippines and later in life got to know him more since moving to the US. 2nd, JoeAnne or (Val) who has since passed, RIP. I watched him save her from drowning at Ala Moana Beach Park. She was floating away. Keep in mind; she did not know how to swim and I was about 4 or 6 years old. 3rd, James, He enjoyed going to watch his baseball games. Did I mention he enjoys sports? James recently would visit to sit by his side and bring him his favorite food. 4th, Amy. I remember he flew to Ca. to take care of her when she got sick. And within the past couple of years she has since flown back and forth to Hawaii many a times to check up on him. 5th, Vicky. Dad traveled all the way to Va. for her kid’s graduations. She recently moved from Japan in March and for the past 2 months has been here with Dad. I’m the 6th. Dad watched my 4 children. He was the 1st to call Morgan “Mighty Mo”, Liam “Little Man” and he could not tell the twins a part. He bought me my first car but did not come to my wedding. 7th, John. I remember him being the favorite. However, when John Randy was born, He became the Favorite “BOI”. But John still made Dad his favorite even though John Randy and Papa were known as the Wendy’s duo. 8th, Sebastian the III. Dad was fortunate to live with Boc and his new family. He remained active and young watching the 3 girls grow. He was the only wedding my Dad attended other than Reynold and Nanette’s wedding. And that is saying a lot. This is a happy inside endearing joke. Did I mention he did not attend my wedding? Seriously though, as adults we began saying and expressing “I love you Dad!” and giving hugs and kisses. He began responding “I love you too!” and giving us hugs and kisses. I really believe this melted his heart. 
I will always love you Daddy, More Than Words!

Your Celebration of Life was very beautiful! Your Ohana had a great time sharing memories that were fun, sad, and real. We tried to enjoy our time together remembering you as you would have partied. Laughing, Smiling, Hugging, Singing, and Dancing without alcohol. Everyone thought the service went smooth, emotional, and so quick. Even though we stayed until past our time 12:00pm – 5:00pm (5:30pm). Your Picture Posters are HANDSOME! The Urn you chose is very BLING! The floral arrangements were pretty and simple. 
Dad, Thank you, for all that you have done. We may have experienced our journeys with ups and downs. Looking back, there are NO REGRETS… You have run the race. May you rest in peace with our Loving Heavenly Father God, The Holy Spirit, and Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

Dad,
There are so many memories that my family have shared with you. I am so grateful for your presence in our lives. You have given the gift of time well spent with each of us. Time spent babysitting, cooking, feeding, changing diapers, eating out, and hanging out at your many different apartments/homes. We will especially miss the times you spent in our backyard planting your garden. You created many meals with the vegetables your green thumb grew. However, Journey said, “You lost in thumb war battles!” The eggplant, green beans, okra, saluyot, and bitter melon. The times you and Mama Tita would pick up Liam on Monday mornings to watch Liam and Hunter. We would then drive to the Manana apartment to have dinner with you guys. We will forever remember the time we went swimming at your pool at the Pearl City Towers apartment; going to the Waipahu McDonald’s HOT playground; eating and playing at the scary mouse place, (Chuck-E-Cheese); and meeting at Ala Moana Center to eat dinner and stroll around window shopping with the double stroller. You made the time to watch them play soccer, Christmas programs, school programs, and the holidays. We appreciate how Generous, Funny and Fun you are. Thank you so much for all the love you have lavished upon us.

I still laugh when I remember all the times you would take me to Taco Bell when I was sick. You would eat tacos and I would eat Cinnamon Twists with a Sprite (because Sprite is good for you when sick). I will miss your funny jokes, smile, and big hugs. Especially, the prickly kisses on the cheek (from your stache) that made me feel so loved. I miss you so much. Thank you for always loving me and for taking care of me.

What hit me very hard when going to see my dad at his bedside in the hospital to bring his Poke, when asked by the CNA and nurses he had this look that he was so frustrated and the look that made me begin to wanna leave, but all of a sudden he burst out real sure that they all heard and made me fell like he missed and loved me so much, he said to the nurse, “He is my son!” I was hacked, “Yeah, He’s, my DAD!!!!! That made me actually feel really awesome. I wish I could have more time with him and give him some grandchildren. I’ve always known he loved me so very much. My DAD no matter our differences, I’ve always known him to be very cool he was down right cool. And I know even if I didn’t tell him that I’m gonna miss him so much and always loved him, it really hurts inside yet he made me to be very strong, not cry in front of him or anybody else.  He took me to places most kids don’t experience in which made me able to stand tall, to lead my 15 yr. baseball team, to remember that I made a big difference in how we became a team as well brothers, to overcome adversity. My DAD will be remembered as very handsome and COOL. You can rest in eternal peace. Love you and I will miss you very much. Aloha! Coolest Dad ever. So many memories and too much to write.  Not perfect, but I believe he has been redeemed. 🙏

My dad always made me feel safe. Even when I was not at my best or I let him down, he always circled back and made sure I learned or understood where he was coming from.

Cool memory that I wanted to share at his celebration but I was too emotional, was when I got arrested for fighting in school.
My loving sister Val left work to pick me up from the police station. She gave me the big sister talk, took me to eat and brought me home reminding me mom was waiting inside the house. She said it will be ok tomorrow.

Sure enough I walk through the door and mom is sitting at the dining table fuming.
All I remember is she telling me go to my room your dad is on his way and he is mad.

Few hours pass and I am sitting on my bed with all kinds of thoughts running through my head. I her him enter the house and they are arguing in the kitchen.

I wanted to jump out of the window and run.
I hear foot steps coming down the hallway. The door opens and dad sticks his head in and looks at me for a moment. Then he says” Did you win?” I said yes dad. He replies good and leaves the house.

It’s not always easy to put into words the impact someone has in your life, Especially someone who became more than just a ‘family by marriage’. But here’s mine…

Dear dad, 

We all have our own memories of you, some funny, some frustrating and some deep meaningful moments. We had the chance to be with you through many seasons of your life when you was still strong, independent until your final chapter. When your illness made its way in your life, it brought with it a different kind of bond between us. Like I always say, I cared for you not out of duty but out of deep respect and love. I know it wasn’t easy, but on those difficult times, caring for you taught me more about patience, grace and humility than I ever thought possible.Finally no more pain ❤️ A hui hou dad. Missing you Apo and Dad.

Tita Shirley shared that when she and grandpa used to come to Vegas- my mom would take them out to sing karaoke. She would sing this song that then became grandpas favorite, even long after she passed -because it reminded him of her.  And though Tita Shirley didn’t know what it meant because it was in Tagalog- he played it for her anyway. The song is called Dahil sayo-which translates to the name of my poem

Because of You

You slipped away

Thanks for coming to visit us in Vegas so often when we were little. My mom was always so excited to spend time (and money) with you at the casinos! You made her and us so happy. And you always knew Trader Joe’s wine was the best before it was trendy. Rest in love Papa Hawaii!

A moment we’ll always hold close—Caden met one of his great grandpas, and we’ll forever be grateful.

Thank you Dad, for the awesome family trip to Maui.  The kids remember going to the ”jungle”, picking and eating fresh limu during sunrise, and surviving the winding road to Haleakala.  My kids loved you with all their hearts and that made you very special…and I love YOU more…

I have been struggling so much to find the right words to relay my thoughts and feelings for the family. Papa has left behind one of the most beautiful families in existence. Surrounded by so many people who cared about him so deeply and a witness to his life, story, and legacy. I am honored to have met him and to have made him genuinely laugh and laugh and smile with him as I was like his own family all along. He accepted me right from the jump and that is something everyone needs. I may have not known papa long, but seeing how his life has touched everyone around us makes me feel like I'm one of his own grand kids. Thank you for having a beautiful family, thank you for blessing Caly and I. This isn't goodbye, it's' "I'll see you later!" Rest gently papa Sado.

When my family and I visited Papa in 2021, I asked him to make pinakbet because it’s my favorite dish that he makes. So we went to seafood city to grab ingredients and I snapped a pic of Papa for funzies. It will be difficult to come to terms knowing I will not be able to do this anymore. I hope you are at ease now, Papa. I love you very much ❤️
