She is survived by me, her daughter, Rhonda Sue Porter and her son, Charles Ronald Brock and her grandchildren, Christopher Adam Brock and Charles Kenneth Porter, Jr. (CJ). She is also survived by four brothers and sisters, Betty Lou Collier, Lawrence Gray Adams, Nina Faye Rolph, and Donald Ray Adams.
As a teen, she was quite the tomboy. She played softball, basketball and could kick a kickball into the schools chimney!
As an adult she played softball on the Falconettes which came third place. She bowled on a team in a league all their own. She was very good. She has trophies for softball and even more bowling trophies and shirts. We will treasure them always.
Mom loved her music, especially Randy Travis and lately Billy Currington.
Mom loved her dog Sparky. He kept her company and was a part of our family and still is. He already misses her.
Mom worked all of her life as a waitress. Back home in Kentucky, she worked at the Car Barn. Here she worked at The Barn Restaurant for 24 years. When they closed she went to the Café Iguana. When they closed she went to the Lobster House.
People knew mom as the best waitress in town! Well, she was the best Mom too! We never went without--love or anything else. She loved people. Our friends were like family. As a matter of fact, she raised half of them and some still call her "Ma".
She was quite a prankster as well. One Thanksgiving, she baked a cornish hen along with the turkey that my brother's company gave him for the holiday. We had invited guests to have Thanksgiving dinner with us. Come time to give thanks to God and eat, mom said, "Charlie, honey, that turkey they gave you shrank a little bit." Well when she lifted that lid from the turkey platter and all that was there was that little hen, we all were stunned! The look on my brother's face, well words can't describe. One of our guests said, "that's ok, I don't like turkey anyway!" and mom laughed and laughed. She was always laughing an smiling. She was a pure joy to have around. She was a blessing to us and to anyone who knew her.
When we would ask her, "mom, do you need anything?" she would always say, "yeah, a new body". Well now she has one, praise God!
Mom, we love you and we miss you badly. We will never ever forget your smile and all that you gave-- your all!
We will see you again!
Until then...You are in our hearts!
Love,
Rhonda Sue Porter
Charles Ronald Brock
