

He was born on April 9, 1931 in Spartanburg, SC to Charlie Vickers and Georgia Ellen Woody Alley. He attended Fayetteville State University. He retired after 20 years from the US Army, having proudly served in the 173rd ABN Brigade, 101st ABN Division, and 82nd ABN Division. During his career, he served in Vietnam and received two Bronze Stars. After serving in the military, he went on to work with the Fayetteville Publishing Company before retiring after 35 years.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm Tuesday at Reeves Funeral Home in Hope Mills.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church in Fayetteville with the Rev. Herbert Lowry officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park.
Mr. Vickers was preceded in death by his mother Georgia Ellen Woody Alley; sister, Betty Louise Cook; and brother, Jim Ramsey.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 60 years, Lucille Vickers of Fayetteville; six children, Debra Vickers Oberlies of Greeley, CO, Beverlie Vickers Salisbury of Fayetteville, Sandie Vickers Thompson of Fayetteville, Donald Vickers of Fayetteville, Cheryle Vickers Rivas of Raeford, and Chuck Vickers of Raeford; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.
