David Preston Matthews

Rev. David Preston Matthews, age 59, of 304 N. 11th Street, Erwin died Sunday, October 16, 2016 at his Home. David was born in San Diego, Ca. on November 26, 1956 the son of the late Elwood Matthews. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and had a Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies from Carolina Bible College in Fayetteville and was the pastor of Oakdale Baptist Church. He was employed with the State of N.C. Dept. of Administration as a HVAC Supervisor. He loved and enjoyed spending time with his family and his church family and was known by his 6 grandchildren as “Papa.” He enjoyed golfing and playing guitar. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Oakdale Baptist Church, Hwy 27 & Red Hill Church Rd. Burial will follow in Erwin Memorial Park. He is survived by: His wife: Lori Ann Matthews of the home.
