Maria Davis Rahe passed away peacefully on October 24th 2013 at Cape Fear Valley Hospital after her 14 year, “walking miracle” struggle with congestive heart failure. Maria was born in the Tirol region of Schlanders, Italy on September 11th 1932. She was a gentle, loving, humble and generous woman always having a kind word to be given to anyone she met.
In her healthy years she enjoyed work, sewing, cooking and spending time with her many special German girlfriends. Her story telling of her homeland was vivid and inspiring making any listener long to go there. Maria was devoted to raising her three children and making sure they had all that America had to offer. Even through her bad health she made sure her family remained close and knew they were loved. She always prayed for her family and friends, but especially for her grandchildren which she cherished.
Maria is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Novotney her devoted caregiver, son, Kenneth Ray Davis and partner Robert Terrell both of Fayetteville, both USAF retired; son, Alvin and wife Cheryll Davis of Fort Mill, S.C.; granddaughter, Felicia Lewis; and grandsons Fredrick and Faison; sisters Anna Napier of Virginia, and Mana, Rosi, and Hermina all of Germany. Her husband Pink T. Davis preceded her in death.
We can remember Mother and only fret that she is gone or we can treasure her memory and let it live on. We can cry and shut our minds, be empty and unfulfilled or we can do what she would want—smile, praise God she has gone home, open our eyes and hearts, love all and go on.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013 in Reeves Funeral Home chapel. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service.
She will be laid to rest in Lafayette Memorial Park West at a later date.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Nurses and Doctors of CFVH for their compassion and support in her final days. Also, the family wishes to thank all the caregivers of Righteous Homecare for their dedicated service to our mother.
