

Mildred Barefoot Peacock, 93, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2023 at her home in Godwin. She was born December 18, 1929 in Johnston County, the daughter of the late Jeptha Barefoot and Viola Williams Barefoot.
Ms. Peacock was a member of Unity Presbyterian church. She graduated from Meadow High School in 1949. After high school she worked for Dorothea Dix Hospital in Raleigh, Philips Ice Cream Company in Clinton where her favorite flavor was Hawaiian Delight, and on her family’s farm in the Meadow Community. She married Burlington Peacock on February 5, 1955, and they moved into the home of her father-in-law in Godwin, where she lived for the rest of her life. She was a devoted wife and mother. She was a woman of great faith and a hardworking servant to her family and in her community.
Ms. Peacock was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Burlington Peacock, and her eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter Bonnie Autry of Godwin, two sons, Tony Peacock and wife Susan of Siler City, Milton Ray Peacock and wife Rhonda of Wade, three grandchildren, Erica Dawn Autry Holloman of Godwin, Burlington Ray Peacock of Wade, Travis Peacock of Winston-Salem, two great-grandchildren, Harper Lynn Holloman and Waylon Holiday Lacey, sister-in-law Barbara Jean Barefoot, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Cromartie Miller Funeral Home in Dunn.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, May 7, 2023 at Harnett Primitive Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
