

Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Pataky, and his son, Brian Pataky. He is survived by his children, Janine McLaughlin and her husband Glenn, Diana Harris and her husband Norman Jr., Heather Botto and her husband Ed, and Nancy Cole and her husband Mike; his grandchildren, Daniell Pataky, Devin Ellis, Kelly Smith-Simons, Norman Harris III, Brittney Sheffer, Ryan Botto, Joseph Botto, Amanda Botto, Branden Cole, and Alexander Savage; 11 great grandchildren; his brother, David Pataky; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Richard enjoyed bowling, and he was always working—never one to sit still for long. Above all, he valued spending time with his family and always made sure to take the family on vacation, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.
A very active member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Richard also dedicated himself to fellowship and service through the Knights of Columbus and as a member of the Elks Club. His steady presence, warm humor, and faithful heart will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A visitation with family and friends will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 5050 Oak St., Hope Mills, North Carolina 28348, on March 13, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will follow at Good Shepherd Catholic Church on March 13, 2026, at 12:00 pm. Burial will take place at Cumberland Memorial Gardens on March 13, 2026.
