She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Sherrill Jernigan; her sister Marie Thornton; her brothers Melburn and Leamon Avery; and her parents Lester Avery and Vernie Price Howard.
Left to cherish her memory is her son James Sherrill Jernigan (Lisa) of Coats, NC; her daughters Tammy Beasley (Dwight) of Dunn, NC and Phyllis Lee (Michael) of Four Oaks, NC; and her sisters Lessie Bianco (Mick) of Wilmington, NC and Diane Griffin (Salvador Condado) of Coats, NC. Sylvia also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Sylvia worked all her life as an accomplished seamstress. She also enjoyed playing bingo, and doing crochet and cross stitch. She was also a Die Hard Elvis Presley fan, but was famous for telling the corniest jokes ever heard in your life.
The visitation for Sylvia Ann Jernigan will be Thursday, December 5, 2024 from 6-8 PM at Cromartie-Miller Funeral Home in Dunn, NC, with a service on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 11 AM at Cromartie-Miller Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Wayne Dunn. The service will conclude with a burial at Lee Johnson Cemetery.
