OBITUARY Wade, NC Mr. Thomas Walter Strickland, Jr., age 92, of Scottie Godwin Rd., Wade died Friday, September 5, 2014, at his home. Mr. Strickland was born July 10,1922 in Cumberland County the son of the late Thomas Walter & Vera McMillan Strickland and is preceded in death by his wife Pearlean Strickland, a son, Larry Strickland, a brother, John Olive Strickland and 3 sisters, Mildred Allene Strickland, Betty Ann Lucas and Ruth Grey Strickland. Mr. Strickland is a World War II Army Veteran and was awarded the Eamet Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars. He was retired from Seaboard Coast Line Railroad with 35 years of service. He was a dedicated member of McMillan Presbyterian Church from 1937 till 2000 where he was elected as Deacon in 1946, and served as Elder for over 50 years. He also served as Sunday School Superintendent and in other leadership roles. He joined Antioch Baptist Church in 2000 where he served as Deacon. His community involvement also included serving on the Board of Directors of the Wade Fire Department. A Funeral Service will be held Sunday, September 7, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Antioch Baptist Church in Falcon with Rev. Sammy McLamb & Rev. Donald Harris officiating . Burial will follow in McMillan Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Surviving include: His son: Tony Strickland and wife Billie Jo Granddaughters: Tracie Strickland Nunnery and husband Jamie Candice Brooke Strickland Great Granddaughters: Taylor Nunnery and Morgan Nunnery A Sister: Patsy Stewart and husband Wilbert 2 Brothers: William (Billy) Strickland and wife Barbara Bobby Strickland Several Nieces and Nephews The Family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 – 3:00 PM prior to the service at Antioch Baptist Church.
