

De graduated from Lakeside High School in Hot Springs and earned her Master of Science in Education from Henderson State University. Her love for animals was well known, as she cherished both cats and dogs throughout her life.
De's career was rich and varied, and she contributed significantly to education and the arts in her community. In her youth, she was a notable participant in beauty pageants, securing positions as 2nd runner-up Miss Henderson and 1st runner-up Miss Hot Springs in the early '60s. Her professional journey included roles as a Drama and English Literature teacher at Ole Main High School in North Little Rock, AR, in the early '70s, and an English teacher at Lakeside High School in the mid '70s. De also served as an LPN in various medical facilities in Hot Springs and later as a school counselor at Bismarck Elementary. In addition to her educational roles, she was a childhood counseling private practitioner and held a lead acting role in Mid America Amphitheater's summer production of “Conquistador” in the late '70s.
She was a member of Rock Creek Family Church in Hot Springs, AR. De's life was marked by her dedication to helping those who were less fortunate and animals, values that extended into her involvement with various human and animal rights organizations.
De is survived by her daughter, Christi Muammar Miller (Todd), and grandchildren Christopher Meyers, Evan Meyers, and Joshua Miller, Hot Springs, AR; her daughter, Karrin (Alan) Landers, and grandchildren Shelby Childs, Roswell, GA, and Amy (William) Hirsch, and great-grandchild Elsie Hirsch, Marietta, GA; her son, Scott Dunphy, Dallas, TX; and her brother, David Heindl, Hot Springs.
She is predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Mike Dunphy; her daughter, Jane Dunphy; her parents, Mike and Louise Heindl; and her brother, James Heindl. Honorary pallbearers are Scott Dunphy, Alan Landers, Todd Miller, Christopher Meyers, Evan Meyers, Joshua Miller, Hannah Sexton, Jay Olmedo, and Jim Olmedo.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at Gross Funeral Home Chapel, 120 Wrights St., Hot Springs, AR, on August 17, 2024, at 1:00 PM.
De will be remembered as a strong, beautiful soul who left an indelible mark on her community and the hearts of those she touched.
