Derrell was born in Holdenville, OK on October 9, 1934. He was a graduate of Wister, OK high school and Centenary College in Shreveport, LA. Derrell was married to the love of his life, Bessie Elizabeth Vise Johnson, for 72 years.
He is survived by his wife and only child Steven Edward Johnson, both of Hot Springs, AR. He had one grandson, Kyle Johnson.
Derrell worked for the Kansas City Southern Railroad for 44 years, retiring in 1996. He hired on as a telegraph operator and retired as Vice President of Sales for the Railroad. Gladys Georgia Jagger was his mother and Thearel Major Johnson was his father.
He loved his family, trains, and LSU Tigers football. He will be greatly missed. Per Derrell’s wishes he was cremated and there will be no service at this time.
