

Dr. Reeves is survived by his wife, Joy; their two children, John Lewis Reeves II (Soprina) and Karen Reeves Gardner; sister-in-law Carol Lambert; five grandchildren, Makenzie, Aspen, Attie, Tyler (Shaylin), Cody; great granddaughter Kinnsley; and several nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He is predeceased by his parents and five siblings.
Hershel retired as Professor of Forestry after 25 years of teaching and conducting research at Stephen F. Austin State University located in Nacogdoches, Texas. Hershel earned a B.A. in Education, a M.A. in Geography from the University of KY, and a P.H.D. in Forestry from Louisiana State University (1970). He is the author of one book and a co-author of two books as well as numerous publications in professional journals. Hershel received many awards/honors from professional and civic societies during his academic career, including being elected as Fellow in the National Society of American Foresters.
In 2014 Hershel and his wife moved to the Atrium in Hot Springs, Arkansas from Hot Springs Village where they lived for 18 years. Hershel will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He was a blessing to all that knew him.
